Choosing the right scale

We’re well into the new year and that means the reality of some resolutions are starting to sink in. While the goal to work out every day may have seemed totally possible on December 31st, now you actually have to make it happen. 1) Be clear on what you want to accomplish. Don’t say ‘I want to eat better.’ Say how. Have a finite plan that’s effective and manageable.

2) Be clear on the why. If you want to lose a few kilograms, make sure your motivations are clear and are enough to keep you on track. Maybe you want to fit into a smaller size or maybe you just want to feel healthier. Make sure the goal matters to you. Otherwise, you’re setting yourself up for an internal conflict. Not caring enough about what you’re trying to accomplish can mean that every time you need to meet your goal you might resent it.

3) Get organized. Karen Kavett created a calendar to help with resolutions. It might help you feel accomplished and stay motivated to not ‘break the chain.’

4) Be prepared. Often we try to eliminate something from our diet and it works until I’m hungry and don’t have a healthy snack with me. It’s hard not to head straight to the item you’re avoiding when you’re hungry and out of options. If you want to work out every day, schedule in the time — and make sure it’s during a period of the day when you have energy. If you want to eat better, plan for that. Packing your own food is a great way to stay in control of your eating because you make the decision to eat well before you’re starving.
