Circular Solutions, Community Revolutions

At Baseline Scales, we recognize the pressing environmental issues surrounding excessive carbon emissions, landfill overflow, and the detrimental impact of virgin plastics on our natural environment.

The discussion about the use of slicing machines instead of traditional knives is taking place against the backdrop of current trends in the food service

One of the most critical concerns is the looming threat of landfill overflow. With plastic production outpacing recycling efforts, we’re approaching a crisis point. In the Cape Metropole, only two landfills manage the immense daily waste we produce. At the current rate, these landfills could reach or exceed their legal capacity within nine years, leading to rampant illegal dumping on available land. This scenario paints a bleak picture for communities, where waste collection may cease, leaving individuals to dispose of waste without proper infrastructure, exacerbating environmental pollution.

This initiative isn’t just about waste reduction—it’s about local empowerment and sustainable growth. ”

CHALLENGE

Proud to be part of the solution

However, Baseline Scales is proud to be part of the solution through the ReCha initiative. Since its inception, ReCha has supported the creation of 10 micro-enterprises, collectively diverting 190,000 kg of waste from landfills in just four months. Our vision is ambitious, aiming to establish 100 ReChas by June 2025, generating 300 jobs and positively impacting over 1,500 livelihoods. More importantly, we aim to divert 13.4 million kilograms of waste from our overburdened landfills.

This initiative isn’t just about waste reduction—it’s about local empowerment and sustainable growth. We invite you to join us.

Whether by supporting a ReCha, recycling your waste with them, or donating recyclable materials to those in need, every bit of involvement helps. At Baseline Scales, we believe in a collective responsibility to prevent our landfills from overflowing and to protect our communities from the negative consequences of environmental neglect.

With a proven concept, an undeniable demand for recyclables, and a growing network of ReCha micro-enterprises, the future of waste management in the Cape Metropole looks promising. This is not just an environmental investment; it's an investment in the health and future of our communities.

Ready to make a difference? Let’s get in touch today. Baseline Scales is here to guide you in finding your role in this essential initiative.”
